WPC uses powerful videos to educate about Parkinson's as we prepare for the 6th World Parkinson Congress in Barcelona, Spain from July 4-7, 2023.

NEW YORK, March 21, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- World Parkinson Coalition ® announces Top 12 Videos for the WPC 2023 Video Competition. These selected videos collectively capture what many with Parkinson's feel every day as they live with this disease, enabling viewers to visually, intellectually, and emotionally walk in their shoes. Moreover, the 12 videos inspire, encourage, educate and reassures that one can live life to the fullest when living with Parkinson's disease.

Voting for the People's Choice Award, chosen from among the Top 12 Videos, is now open and closes on April 20, 2023. Individuals are encouraged to view the 12 videos and choose their favorite. One vote is permitted per person. Both the Grand Prize-winning video and the People's Choice Award video will be announced and shown at the Opening Ceremony on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 in Barcelona.

"One of the main purposes of the World Parkinson Congress (WPC 2023) is to bring people together from all over the world to share similar experiences from their lives with Parkinson's disease," states Elizabeth (Eli) Pollard, executive director, World Parkinson Coalition. "Video is a great way to capture and share the power of science, hope, humor, and inspiration," adds Pollard. "It's also a great way to encourage discourse about a disease that is often misunderstood."

Ten judges, each connected to Parkinson's disease, whether a researcher, a movement disorders specialist, care partner, past winner, or a friend of someone who lives with the disease reviewed 50 entries from around the world and chose 12 finalists and Honorary mentions from the pool of participants.

Judges have already selected the Grand prize winner from these Top 12 Videos and now it's time for the public to select the WPC 2023 People's Choice Award at https://wpc2023.org/page/Top12-WPC2023. WPC 2023 announce and show these two winning videos at the WPC 2023 Opening Ceremonies at the International Barcelona Convention Center on July 4, 2023.

"I'm thrilled that SLIM SHAKY has been selected for the Top 12, and I'm so grateful for this opportunity to share the stories of Heather Kennedy and my mom! It's a great honor to play a part in the incredibly important work that WPC does for people whose lives have been impacted by Parkinson's disease. I'm heartened to know that SLIM SHAKY's message of living a meaningful life in the face of challenges like Parkinson's will reach viewers across the world, and I hope that the lyrics can inspire, energize, and get stuck in everyone's heads."
